Cinema

European cinemas in good health!

Across Europe and since the beginning of the year 2006, cinema theatres have recorded a marked increase in audience figures. Blockbuster hits such Ice Age II, Mission Impossible III, the Da Vinci Code have contributed to bringing more viewers to theatres and maintaining the good health of the cinema industry.

For example, in France, according to the French Cinematography Center (CNC),  cinemas across France observed similar trends with 52,03 million spectators in the first quarter of 2006, 15 % more than in the same period in 2005.

The European cinema industry in particular has experienced marked success in drawing spectators to screens. In Spain for instance, Pedro Almodovar’s Volver, Vicente Aranda’s Tirante el Blanco and David Trueba’s Bienvenido a casa figure in the country’s top 5 2006 blockbuster list, totalling over 1 million cinema spectators.
